OZ Corretora de Câmbio is a leading currency exchange and financial services provider in Brazil, founded in 2000 and based in São Paulo. With 71 employees, it serves 150,000+ clients worldwide and ranks among the top five players in the Brazilian exchange market. OZ offers online currency exchange, mass payment services for businesses, and API integrations. Its mission: simplify international money movement and financial services for businesses and individuals globally.
The Challenge
For over 20 years, OZ Câmbio has led Brazil's foreign exchange market. Yet the company faced a critical gap: SMEs — the fastest-growing segment of Brazil's economy — remained underserved by traditional banks. Cross-border payments, the lifeblood of import/export and global hiring, were painfully slow, often taking a week or more. They were also opaque, with neither party able to track movement in real time.
The region's industry data told the story: between 2018 and 2022, the number of legal entities with bank accounts in Brazil surged 35 percent, a record jump, but the infrastructure to serve them at scale didn't exist.
The Solution
OZ partnered with Nium in 2023 to build the SME Cross Border Platform, a white-label offering designed specifically for businesses moving money across borders. Powered by Nium's global payout infrastructure across 190+ countries, the platform accepts Brazil's most popular payment methods — Pix, TED, cards, and boleto — while delivering real-time speed, automated compliance, and transparency.
The white-label model lets OZ offer the same solution to financial institutions, fintechs, and other partners, multiplying its reach without building infrastructure twice.
The Results
Powered by Nium, OZ's SME Cross Border Platform delivered:
- Dramatic cost advantage: Customers now pay as little as 30% of what traditional cross-border transfers cost — a 70% reduction.
- Speed that matches domestic payments: Payouts arrive in minutes, not days, enabling importers and exporters to move money as fast as transactions happen.
- Automated compliance and transparency: Real-time tracking and built-in compliance reduce manual work and give customers certainty about their payments.
- New revenue stream: The white-label model lets OZ license the platform to financial institutions, fintechs, and advisors, creating a new business pillar.
Looking Ahead
OZ is positioned to become the gateway for SME cross-border payments across Latin America and beyond.
As the company scales its white-label partnerships and expands into new markets, it plans to extend Nium's global network to serve the next wave of emerging-market SMEs moving money across borders.
