Volopay is a Singapore-based fintech building a financial control center for SMBs, combining business accounts, corporate cards, bill payments, expense reimbursements, cashback, and accounting automation into one platform. With roughly 130+ employees headquartered in Singapore and a presence in Australia, Volopay is expanding next into Indonesia, the Philippines, and the MENA region. Its mission: give growing businesses one platform to move and manage money globally, without the FX overhead.
The challenge
Volopay set out to give SMBs a single financial control center, but the businesses it serves kept hitting two walls: the cost of moving money internationally, and the complexity of managing spend once it arrived. Traditional cross-border payments still route through chains of correspondent banks, layering on fees and hidden FX markups while taking as long as five days to land. Building the infrastructure to fix that without disrupting existing client systems, or slowing onboarding, was a barrier of its own.
The solution
Volopay partnered with Nium, a licensed Visa card issuer, to build corporate card issuance and cross-border payments directly into its platform through a single API integration. Nium provides real-time FX rates with no markup, absorbs the currency risk itself, and issues Volopay's physical and virtual Visa cards with global acceptance, ATM withdrawal, and end-to-end encrypted fraud protection built in.
The results
Together, Nium and Volopay have delivered efficiency at scale:
- 70% month-on-month growth in Singapore since launch.
- 30% increase in vendor card acceptance after integrating Nium's infrastructure.
- Card issuance in as little as 4 weeks, down from the longer timelines legacy systems require.
- Zero-markup FX pricing, with Nium absorbing currency risk on Volopay's behalf.
Looking Ahead
Volopay is using that foundation to expand beyond Singapore, starting with Australia, where cross-border transaction costs remain high enough to be a genuine barrier to business. With Nium's payment rails and Visa's global network behind it, Volopay is positioned to scale into new markets without rebuilding its infrastructure each time.
