October’s updates give you more control over your payouts — routing, validation, and cancellation — plus two new local funding routes, exposure forecasting for Nium Travel clients, and faster multi-party payment flows.
Build the payout experience you want
Payout Rail Preference: choose the rail your payouts take
By default, Nium selects the best rail for each payout based on cost, coverage, and speed. You can now override that, per corridor or per payment, for example, guaranteeing real-time delivery for GBP, or taking the lowest-cost route for a payroll run. Simply set a preference such as real-time, same-day, low-cost, local or SWIFT, and Nium routes accordingly.
If the rail you ask for isn't available, the payment is rejected rather than quietly downgraded, so you can promise your customers a delivery time and keep it. Available across EUR, GBP, HKD, SGD, AUD, CAD, AED, and MYR. Read the documentation.
Payout Validation Schema: know what a payout needs before you send it
The new Payout Validation Schema returns every required field, format rule, accepted value, and purpose code for a corridor in a single call. Use it to build dynamic payout forms in your own UI and validate payloads before submission, cutting rejected transactions and shortening integration time. No static documentation, no trial, and error in testing. Read the documentation.

Cancellation API: cancel in-flight payouts yourself
Payouts can now be cancelled via API at any stage up to compliance completion. Previously, cancellation was only possible before processing began, and anything later meant raising a support ticket.
One call with the transaction reference is all it takes. A new isCancellable flag lets you show or hide a Cancel button in your own product, and you can track progress through the payout's status. No ticket, no waiting.
Fund your wallet locally in two more markets
Local CHF payins from Switzerland and Liechtenstein
Clients can now fund their CHF wallet with a local bank transfer over the Swiss SIC system instead of SWIFT, avoiding SWIFT fees and delays. Named CHF virtual accounts are created on demand through the API and allocated in around 15 minutes, with funds credited the same day. Available to FI and non-FI clients for funding.
AUD direct debit via PayTo, using PayID
Collecting AUD by direct debit no longer has to start with a BSB and account number. Customers can now link their account using a PayID, email, mobile number, or ABN, and approve the PayTo mandate in their own banking app. Settlement is near real-time, stale account details cause fewer failed debits, and mandates can be created, updated, paused, and cancelled through the API. This complements the existing BSB-based PayTo integration.

Spend Exposure Prediction API: forecast card exposure before the peak
For Nium Travel clients using just in time funding, the new Spend Exposure Prediction API shows the total your eligible cards could draw from a wallet during any future period, up to 365 days ahead, along with what remains unspent.
For hotel bookings especially, where cards are issued well before the stay, this means checking the committed exposure for a peak period and topping up in advance, rather than reacting to last-minute funding pressure.
Originating FI screening: faster multi-party payouts for PSPs and FIs
The Transfer Money API now accepts up to six upstream originating financial institutions per transaction, each screened automatically against sanctions and AML. Once an institution has been vetted and approved, subsequent transactions from it clear automatically for 12 months by default, replacing the previous three-to-five business day manual hold on every unfamiliar party. The field is optional, so nothing changes if you don't use it.
What's next?
October's releases are about giving you more control over routing, validation, cancellation, and funding with less dependence on anyone but your own team.
